Deal To Free Chibok Girls Still On – Chadian Official

The breakdown of the ceasefire between Nigeria and Boko Haram will not affect negotiations to free the Chibok girls, a Chadian official has said. A deal being made with Boko Haram to procure the freedom of the abducted Chibok girls will still go on, sources in Chad have said. The prospect of the girls’ release had a shadow cast on it after a truce between Nigeria and the sect broke down but this will not affect negotiations » to free them, Reuters reports. The main foundation of the talks with Boko Haram is said to be a prisoner swap agreement. According to the second in command at Chad's foreign ministry, Moussa Mahamat Dago: "Quite possibly, those that are fighting are dissidents that even they aren't able to control. So far, there is no reason for others to doubt this agreement." "The starting condition of Boko Haram was the liberation of some of their members ... That is the compensation." "We remain optimistic. The two sides agreed to find a negotiated solution and to show their good faith, they already freed some hostages and announced a ceasefire.” A ceasefire » between Nigeria and Boko Haram was announced on Friday, October 17 but attacks » and counter attacks » are still being reported.
