Boko Haram: Terrorists Marry Off Abducted Girls, Release Old Women
The insurgents are said to have detained the
young girls they abducted and have reportedly
married some of them off to members of the
sect.
Boko Haram militants, who reportedly abducted
about 60 female residents in Borno and
Adamawa States, are said to have released the
grown women among their captives.
The insurgents are however said to have detained
the young girls they abducted and have
reportedly married some of them off to members
of the sect.
The development was disclosed by residents who
spoke to journalists via telephone, Vanguard
reports.
The villagers however said that the exact number
of the girls being held could not be determined
but they were not less than 45.
A relative of one of the freed women reportedly
said:
“Initially, the insurgents captured 80 girls and
women whom they later loaded into their vans
and zoomed off into the bushes.”
“Later in the night, the insurgents separated the
elderly women from the girls and released the
women, who are now languishing in the forest
because they could not relocate the towns
because they were razed down by the
insurgents.”
“We are confused that hours after the so called
cease fire agreement between the Federal
Government and Boko Haram insurgents, our
girls are still being abducted by the insurgents.”
“We are at a loss about government’s insincerity
on the whole issue and we urge them to rescue
our daughters without further delay as we are
ready to die searching for our missing ones.”
The residents also alleged that the girls who
weren’t married off were mandated to cook for
the members of the sect.
There have however been conflicting accounts of
the abductions which reportedly took place in
Waga Mangoro in Adamawa state as while some
reports allege that 50 women and girls were
kidnapped, yet others state that the actual
number is 60.
