They found the 48-year-old had £2000 in cash and a urine test showed he had cocaine in his system. A strip search did not reveal any drugs but the cluster of packages inside him showed up when an X-ray was taken at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. Atueyi was transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he went on to excrete 80 packages weighing a total of 2lb 10oz. He was then charged to court. David Nicolson, prosecuting, said: Six of the packages were examined and found to be cocaine with an average purity of 65 per cent. The drug expert witness unit considers this to be importation purity. The street level purity of cocaine in the east of Scotland is only 10 per cent. Atueyi told the UK Border Force that he lived in the city of Onitsha in south-eastern Nigeria, where he was a car trader and ran a boutique selling clothes. He initially claimed the £2000 in his possession was to buy clothes for his shop. But eventually he confessed that he had been paid the cash upfront to smuggle drugs and would have received a further £2000 when he delivered them. He said he knew he had swallowed drugs but had not known which one. Atueyi admitted to the High Court in Glasgow that he had smuggled cocaine. Judge Lord Burns deferred sentence on Atueyi until next month and ordered the £2000 he was carrying to be confiscated.
