Ottawa Shooting Update: 2 Dead After Canadian Parliament Attack

2 people have been confirmed dead after a gunman shot a soldier near the Canadian Parliament and got access into the main building before he was killed by security personnel. A soldier guarding the War Memorial near the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa has lost his life after an attacker shot him point blank » before also being gunned down by security personnel. Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was murdered by Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, a convert to Islam who was born Michael Joseph Hall in 1982. Contrary to reports that there were multiple shooters, Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson has said that Zehaf-Bibeau was the lone gunman and investigations are currently ongoing into his actions and motives for same. Watson told CNN: "It appears there was just one shooter, and that shooter is dead," "But it has been a traumatic experience, obviously, for not only our city but the country." Prime Minister, Stephen Harper said: "In the days to come, we will learn more about the terrorist and any accomplices he may have had, but this week's events are a grim reminder that Canada is not immune to the types of terrorist attacks we have seen elsewhere in the world." "Let there be no misunderstanding: We will not be intimidated. Canada will never be intimidated." Zehaf-Bibeau had been arrested several times for drug use before he converted to Islam. Wednesday’s events led to a temporary lockdown of the parliament after Prime Minister Harper was taken out of the building.
