Police recover kidnapped Afghan child from KP

A 13-year-old Afghan boy, who was kidnapped for ransom 10 months ago from Pirwadhai, was recovered by police during a successful raid on a house located near the mountainous belt of Chirat in Pabbi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The boy Abdul Ahad son of Muhammad Baryalay was picked up on November 18, 2013 when he was playing video game in Bangash Colony after returning from school. Initially, his mother did not know the reason behind his abduction. Police also arrested the kidnapper namely Abdul Rahim, a resident of Nowshera, informed City Police Officer (CPO) Humayun Bashir Tarar and SP Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik while talking to The Nation here on Thursday. Police also recovered a mobile phone and a SIM from the possession of the detainee while raids were also being conducted to arrest rest of the accused. Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Pirwadhai Jahangir Bhatti, mother of the recovered child Gulalai, brothers and sister and the boy’s schoolteacher were also present on the occasion. Sharing the details, SP Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik said that Abdul Ahad was kidnapped from a video game shop in Bangash Colony on November 18, 2013 by unknown kidnappers while a case was registered with the Police Station Pirwadhai on 17/12/2013. “The CPO, on approaching by the victim mother, constituted a special team under his surveillance with SHO Police Station Pirwadhai, IT Lab ASI Mehboob and Qadri to trace out the child,” SP said, adding in the meanwhile the kidnapper contacted the family via Skype and then on cell phone, demanding Rs0.1 million as ransom for the safe recovery of the child. He said that police obtained the mobile data of the kidnapper and traced his location in Pabbi, KP. Karamatullah Malik said that he contacted DPO Nowshehra and sought his help for recovery of child and arrest of kidnapper. On 25 September, he said, the kidnapper contacted boy’s family and demanded Rs100,000 but the family sent him Rs10,000 through easy pesa. “Finally, a police team managed to arrest the kidnapper and recover the boy from a house in the remote area of Pabbi,” he said. Police arrested the kidnapper and would produce him before a court of law today (Friday) to obtain his physical remand. CPO, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the police raiding team and announced cash prizes for them. He said that the prime responsibility of the police was to provide security to people. He said that a mother suffered for 10 months due to kidnapping of his son but Allah Almighty ended her miseries and Pindi police reunited the child with his family. Coming hard on Investigation Officer (IO) of case Mumtaz, CPO said that strict action would be taken against him for humiliating the family in past and forced it to spend money for searching the abducted child. “The government allocates funds for police investigations and no officer will be allowed to force the applicant to spend money during investigation of case.” he added. Abdul Ahad, the Afghan refugee boy, while taking to The Nation, said that he was offered a pack of juice and sweet by one Muhammad Ali, the video game and Kiryana Store owner, after having which he got unconscious. He said that he found himself lying in a bed in a house with a female namely Nelam Aunti standing over him. He said a person Rahim Ullah was also in the house where he was kept. After revelations of child, SP ordered SHO to arrest the video game owner and grill him. Following the orders, SHO arrested Muhammad Ali and started investigating him. Talking to The Nation, SHO said that Muhammad Ali was the relative of Ahad and did not involve in the kidnapping. However, he said that further investigation was underway. Gulalai, the mother of child, appealed to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif to award certificate and cash prizes to SP Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik and his team for their hectic efforts they made for recovering his son.
