Ebola Update: Obama Appoints Overseer To Fight Deadly Virus
President Barack Obama has appointed an
Ebola "czar" to spearhead efforts against the disease in the US.
Efforts against Ebola in the US will now be
spearheaded by former White House adviser,
Ron Klain, President Barack Obama announced
on Friday, October 18.
Klain is a lawyer who has served as chief of staff
to former Vice President, Al Gore and current VP,
Joe Biden.
The president also named other senior officials to
intensify the government’s response to the
disease in Texas, where the first case in the US
was reported.
The appointment of Klain as the “Ebola czar” has
however been questioned due to the fact that he
has no medical experience.
US lawmakers have also urged Obama to stop
flights from affected countries in order to stop
the disease and the president has been
severely criticized by billionaire » , Donald
Trump for not doing so.
Experts have however said that stopping flights is
not the way to curb the spread of the disease as it
will only result in the affected countries being cut
off.
Ebola has killed almost 4500 people with Liberia,
Sierra Leone and Guinea suffering the worst hits.
