#BringBackOurGirls: Chibok Girls Might Be Released October 20
Following negotiations for their release, the
218 Chibok girls who have been held captive by
Boko Haram since April 14, might receive their
freedom on Monday, October 20.
According to reports, 218 Chibok girls who were
abducted by Boko Haram six months ago might
be released on Monday, October 20.
This comes as a result of successful talks between
the sect and the Nigerian government which led
both parties to agree to the release of the girls
and also to a ceasefire between Nigeria’s troops
and the terrorists.
News of the ceasefire was announced by the
Chief of Defence Staff » , Air Marshal Alex
Badeh and confirmed by the Defence
Headquarters » .
The Chibok girls were kidnapped on April 14 and
their abduction sparked outrage all over the
world and led to the creation of the hashtag,
#BringBackOurGirls.
The 6 month anniversary of their abduction was
marked with protests by the
#BringBackOurGirls group at the Presidential
Villa in Abuja » and by singer, Alicia Keys at
the Nigerian Embassy in New York » .
