Upon the retirement of Justice Molokwu, the case was reassigned to Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, who revoked the bail earlier granted to him by the former court when he jumped bail on May 22, 2014, during the cause of the trial. The NDLEA had called two witnesses, and tendered 14 exhibits which included the convict’s statements, arresting officers’ statements, drug laboratory report, exhibit forms, the seized drug » , international passport and other traveling documents, which were admitted by the court. The victim informed the court that both have been living together as a couple for about 13 years and that she had several children with him before she later found out that he is HIV/AIDS positive. The court also heard that the defendant issued the hapless woman a divorce letter knowing fully that he infected her with the disease. Umma prayed the court to quash the divorce issued to her by her husband and compel him to re-marry her since he is the one that infected her. In his verdict, the Judge of the court, Malam Farouk Ahmad, granted the complainant’s plea, canceled the divorce issued to her by the husband and ordered him to immediately re- marry her. Judge Ahmad said under Islamic Shari’a Law: It is binding on the husband to stay with the woman for the rest of his life being the one responsible for her getting an infection that has no known cure.

A Zamfara State High Court in Gusau has sentenced the Acting Provost of the College of Education (Technical), Gusau, Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Ahmed, to five years in jail for collecting illegal allowance from the institution. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had arraigned Ahmed for collecting double Duty Tour Allowance from the college for an official trip to attend a board meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, while also collecting an equal amount as DTA from JAMB, including sitting allowances, all totalling N385,000.00. This was contained in a statement signed by the ICPC Resident Consultant, Mr. Folu Olamiti, on Tuesday. The ICPC warned public servants to desist from collecting double DTA from their agencies and also receiving or demanding same in cash or facilities. The ICPC said the warning was necessary after it secured the conviction of Ahmed at the High Court of Justice, Gusau. The ICPC warned public servants to desist from conferring unfair advantage on themselves when attending meetings or during monitoring duties. The anti-graft commission said such an abuse was punishable under Section 19 of the ICPC Act, 2000. The section states that, “Any public officer who uses his office or position to gratify or confer any corrupt or unfair advantage upon himself or associate of the public officer or any public officer shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction, be liable to imprisonment of five years without option of fine.” The ICPC, Olamiti stated, gave the warning because it learnt that many public servants collected double DTA from their agencies and also received or demand same in cash or facilities from the agencies being visited. The statement partly read, “Public servants should learn from the conviction of Dr. Shallah Ahmed. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, on Tuesday said about 30 policemen were still missing following the recent attack carried out by Boko Haram sect on the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, Gwoza Training Camp, Borno State. Abba spoke with State House correspondents shortly after a meeting President Goodluck Jonathan had with security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. It will be recalled that Abba had, in September, told journalists that 20 policemen were still missing after the attack. He, however, said on Tuesday that one of the missing policemen had since been discovered to have reported back at his base. He said, “Even last week, we were able to identify that one of the missing officers in Gwoza had gone back to his base. So there can still be some that are in their homes, perhaps refusing anyone to report that they are around because of the trauma they went through or they could still be among families in some of the villages there. “It still remains our hope that they are alive and that they will come back alive. We are still talking about 30 missing officers.” Abba, however, declined comments on the fate of the Chibok girls. Abba said the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, was in the best position to speak to the press on the matter. The CDS had earlier declined comment, saying the Nigerian media had been leaving issues to discuss personalities. Also, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Muhammed Adoke (SAN), said the Federal Government’s negotiation with the Boko Haram sect which led to a ceasefire agreement was still ongoing. He disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting. Adoke said the meeting was properly briefed on the latest development as far as the agreement was concerned. “The negotiation is still ongoing. The council was briefed about it,” he said. When asked to speak specifically on the fate of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted at the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, the minister said the government was “keeping its fingers crossed.” “We are keeping our fingers crossed,” he said. Other ministers who attended the meeting included Aliyu Gusau (Defence); Aminu Wali (Foreign Affairs) and Abba Moro (Interior). Vice President Namadi Sambo was also in attendance. After collecting their N24m, PDP rejects two presidential aspirants

A fresh crisis is brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party over the insistence of some of its members to contest its presidential primary with President Goodluck Jonathan. But the national leadership of the party has refused to sell its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms to two other presidential aspirants. Two of the aspirants, Dr. Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa- Balewa and Prof. Akasoba Duke-Abiola, were at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Tuesday to purchase the forms, but they were turned back. First to arrive was Tafawa-Balewa, who hails from Bauchi State. He is also the son of Nigeria’s First Republic Prime Minister, the late Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa. It will be recalled that all the caucuses of the party, including the National Executive Council had endorsed President Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate. Tafawa-Balewa had on September 21 condemned the action, which he said was a plot by the leadership of the party to frustrate other presidential aspirants. He insisted that he would not be intimidated by such a decision and vowed not to be cowed. He wondered the type of democracy that was being practised by the PDP. He had asked, “What type of democracy do we have? Is the PDP a communist party? Where is the place of internal democracy?” On Tuesday, Tafawa-Balewa stormed the party’s national secretariat with his supporters and bank tellers, with which he had hoped to purchase the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. The bank tellers indicated that he deposited N22m into the account of the party with Zenith Bank. The breakdown of the fees showed that he paid N20m as nomination fee and another N2m for the expression of interest form. He paid the money into the party’s account Number 1012436478 with the Zenith Bank. Rather than being issued his forms, the aspirant claimed that he was told by officials of the party that the forms were not ready. The party is expected to stop the selling of forms to all the aspirants on Thursday (tomorrow). Tafawa-Balewa said he was told that all other forms were on sale except the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms. He said, “I have paid for my forms. I was however told that they don’t have the forms ready. No matter, I am still here. I will send some of my people here on Thursday to come and pick the forms.” He said he went to the office of the Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and the National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, but was denied the forms. Asked whether he was not aware that all the party organs had endorsed the President, Tafawa- Balewa said those organs were mere little organs of the party and were not superior to its Constitution. Speaking on the refusal of the party to present her with her forms, Duke-Abiola, who is one of the widows of the late Chief MKO Abiola, described the action of the party as questionable. Displaying the Diamond Bank Teller with which she paid her N2m to the party’s bank account, Duke-Abiola wondered why the party would issue her receipts and refused to sell the forms to her. Female aspirants, like her, are expected to pay just N2m for the expression of interest form while the nomination form is free for them. The party claimed it took the decision to encourage female aspirants to run for elective offices. The presidential aspirant said she was told by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and Mustapha that the party printed only one form. She said, “I have the receipt from the party after paying my money. But they said they printed only one presidential nomination form, even though the guidelines do not say that. “The NOS and the National Chairman said the party printed only one form. I asked that they should give the one they printed to me since I was there. They laughed and said whether I didn’t know who they printed it for. This is a fraud.” She said that she would not ask for a refund of her money, but that the party must sell the forms to her, having paid for them since she said there was vacancy in Aso Rock. Synagogue: Pathologists conclude DNA tests in two weeks

The Lagos State Chief Forensic Pathologist, Prof. John Obafunwa, has said that his team would conclude the DNA analysis of the 116 persons that died in the September 12 Synagogue building collapse in “two weeks time.” Obafunwa stated this on Tuesday while presenting his team’s preliminary report to the coroner probing the cause of the collapse of a guest house within the premises of the Synagogue Church of All Nations in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos. The pathologist, who put the mortality figure at 116, said his team was still awaiting the fingerprint reports and lodgers’ list to conclude their job. He reported that the autopsy, conducted by a team of pathologists and dental surgeons, revealed that the victims died of crush injuries called “traumatic rhabdomyolysis”. Obafunwa said, “The bodies were not charred but were compromised by heat. In the case of a building collapse, the temperature would naturally rise, thereby causing decomposition to set in. “Most of the 116 bodies that were received by our team of pathologists were already decomposing, considering the amount of time spent in confinement, due to the heat and tropical nature of the environment. “The bodies had to be embalmed immediately to arrest any further decomposition. The bodies were mutilated, some had head injuries, fractured bones and ribs and some even had dangling limbs that were attached to the body by thin strips of skin.” Meanwhile, a South African citizen and a member of the SCOAN, Mr. Anthony Vanderbyl, who lost his wife to the Synagogue building collapse, has pleaded for the timely release of the body. Vanderbyl told the coroner on Tuesday that his entire family had been further anguished due to the delay in the release of the corpse. He therefore asked for the specific date when the corpse would be released. He said, “My entire family is in anguish because the body of my wife, the mother of my children, lies in the mortuary. We need to see her, to feel a certain amount of closure. “We are asking for a specific day when her body can be released to us, so that we can take her back to South Africa. Please remove whatever obstacles preventing us, we can’t take it anymore.” In response, the Coroner, Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, assured Vanderbyl that the body would be released but that there was “need to follow the international standard best practices in the collection and analysis of DNA samples in order not to be misinformed.” Obafunwa also told the coroner that his team was close to the end of their work. “We are working closely with the South African Department of Health. They are assisting us with reference samples and I know that we are moving closer to the end of the process,” he said. The South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Louis Mnguni, said samples were still being analysed at the laboratory in Cape Town, South Africa. She said she raised an alarm which attracted church members who assisted her to deliver the baby. The news of the deliverance attracted residents who trooped to the church in droves to see the woman and the new born baby. When PMNews reporter visited the church on Tuesday, residents were still visiting the church to congratulate the woman and her husband, Kayode who expressed shock on what happened. Kayode said he did not believe his wife over the years when she claimed to be pregnant because he had waited in vain. He said he was grateful to God for what he had done and thanked the well wishers for their support. The prophet of the church, Yinka Olawale said when the woman came from Abuja, he noticed that she was pregnant and at the same time was having her monthly menstrual cycle. He said he embarked on prayers and also used anointing oil and holy water with faith. He said the first sign they observed was that the cycle stopped and she delivered on Sunday. He thanked God for what happened and said it has strengthened his faith in God.

According to eye witnesses, Abasirim's bus had gotten to the bus stop when they were accosted by the LASTMA officials who demanded for the usual 'roger' from the driver who referred them to his conductor but the man told the traffic officials that they had just come out for the day and as such, they had not made any money. That explanation angered the LASTMA men who allegedly beat up the poor Abasirim and then pushed him from the moving vehicle and he was crushed by another vehicle coming from behind and he died on the spot. The reports also say that the conductor's death triggered serious mob action and the area boys in the area took the laws into their hands, vandalising any vehicle in their sight and in the process causing traffic gridlock on the ever busy road.
