Ebola Outbreak: Last US Patient Cured, Discharged From Hospital

Dr. Craig Spencer was receiving treatment for the disease at the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, New York but has now been certified Ebola-free. The US has recorded a victory against Ebola as the last remaining patient has been cured of the disease and discharged from hospital. Spencer was released on Tuesday, November 11 amidst celebration and he received hugs from New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray. The Mayor said: “It is a good feeling to hug a hero, and we have a hero here in our midst. He has been an inspiration throughout the challenges that he met. Dr. Spencer showed us what it means to help your fellow humans.” The New York Health Department announced on Monday, November 10 that the doctor had tested negative for Ebola. Spencer arrived New York from Guinea on October 14 and was admitted into hospital on October 23 after showing symptoms of the disease.
