Police arrest UK murder suspect in Asaba

Police detectives have apprehended a murder suspect, Jeffrey Okafor,23, who fled to Nigeria, after he was declared wanted in London for the alleged murder of one Carl Asiedu. Okafor who fled to Nigeria in 2009, was arrested on September 23,2014, in Asaba, Delta State, after a diligent search by detectives. A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu on Wednesday in Abuja, said the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, commended the Police Intelligence Operatives for the arrest of the suspect. The IG praised the high level of professionalism displayed by the Police operatives as well as the effective deployment of the Forces’ high tech- equipment in tracking the suspect. He added that despite the fugitive’s frequent change of identity and locations, the operatives were still able to keep a tab on him without raising any suspicion. The IG assured the International law enforcement communities that the Nigeria Police Force would always ensure that all fugitives that show up in Nigeria are apprehended upon request and turned over accordingly. The statement said that all the required procedures for the handover of the fugitive to the UK authorities had been concluded. It said, “The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has commended Police Intelligence Operatives for the arrest of a wanted murder suspect in the United Kingdom, Jeffery Azuka Okafor , male, aged 23 years, who fled to Nigeria after the alleged murder of Carl Beatson Asiedu on 1st August, 2009 in London. “He was arrested on September 23, 2014 in Asaba, Delta State, after a diligent search.”
