Result sheet missing as security agents fight in Ekiti
There was commotion at the Local Government
Collation Centre in Ijero Ekiti on Sunday as
security agencies fight with election officers over
Form EC8C containing the final result of the
Presidential election.
The security agencies attached to the centre,
comprising Police, Department of Security Service,
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria
Immigration Service and others all demanded to
obtain a copy of the results, forcing the officials to
reproduce extra copies of the result.
As the altercation was degenerating to a free-for-
all, the men of the DSS whisked away the Election
Officer, one Mrs. Ogundipe, to an unknown
destination.
The Collation Officer, Mr. Francis Adebayo,
returned to the State Office of the Independent
National Electoral Commission in Ado Ekiti
without the white paper.
Adebayo claimed Ogundipe went away with the
original result sheet while the centre was boiling
as he was almost gunned down.
But the Returning Officer for Peoples Democratic
Party, who simply introduced himself Gen. Ayeni
(retd.) and that of the All Progressives Congress,
Mr. Ojo Asubuoke, countered his account.
They said there was no commotion in Ijero as all
party agents related well during the election,
adding that the argument was between security
agencies and election officials.
Parties, however, accepted the duplicate copy
brought by Adebayo as the results, as according
to them, it reflected the results as endorsed by
their agents at the centre.
