1 Chronicle 4 v 9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
I. HIS PROBLEM And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
A. THE REASON FOR HIS NAME “His mother bore him with sorrow.”
1. Was it because the delivery was hard? 2. Was it because times were hard?
B. THE RIDICULE OF HIS NAME. “His mother called his name Jabez.” (sorrowful)

II. HIS PRAYER 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!And God granted him that which he requested.

Called on Jeremiah 33:3Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
B. CONSIDER HIS PASSION “Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed”
1. His language is most ardent. (With great feeling) Oh
James 1:5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
2. His language is most affectionate. (Loving, tender) Oh

Judges 3:15 But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer,
C. CONSIDER HIS PETITION 10 Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!
1.He Sought the Praise Of God “Bless me.”
2. He Sought the Promotion Of God "and enlarge my coast"
3. He Sought the Presence Of God "that thine hand might be with me"
a. He needed God’s hand to Distinguish him. (to be different) Exodus 33 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
b. He needed God’s hand to Direct him. and that thou wouldest keep me from evil
c. He needed God’s hand to Defend him. that it may not grieve me!
III. HIS PROVISION And God granted him that which he requested.
A. GOD HEARD HIS PETITION.
